Zaqy Mohamad on Building Control (Amendment) Bill(Updated: )
Buildings taller than 13 metres and more than 20 years old have to be inspected every seven years. The requirements for the design and installation of lifts and escalators will be stricter. Buildings which do not have basic accessibility features have to provide them when they are being renovated. These are among the proposed changes under the Building Control (Amendment) Bill to make buildings safer and more accessible, which were outlined by Minister of State for National Development Zaqy Mohamad in Parliament on Friday (Mar 6).
