Grace Fu on Constitution of the Republic of Singapore (Amendment) Bill(Updated: )
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, it could become unsafe or even impossible for Parliament to meet in one place, precisely when it is even more critical that it do so. On Tuesday (May 5), Leader of the House Grace Fu opened the debate on a Bill that would put a constitutional mechanism in place to ensure continuity of Parliament in such times of crisis. It allows members to be spread across two or more places appointed by the President, in real-time communication with each other. Ms Fu noted that there is no immediate need for such separation, but that it is unclear how events will unfold.
