Ong Ye Kung on Protection from Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Bill(Updated: )
In Parliament on Wednesday (May 8), Minister for Education Ong Ye Kung said it is "nearly impossible" for academic research to run afoul of newly passed anti-fake news laws. He was speaking during the debate on the Protection from Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Bill (POFMA). "The only way POFMA comes in is if the research uses false observations and data to start with and fabricated the data, which prevents public discourse from taking place properly. In which case, such work cannot pass the academic and professional standards of any decent university or research institute,” he said.
