S Iswaran on Internet traffic, telco volume during COVID-19 circuit breaker period(Updated: )
Internet traffic has surged since the start of the circuit breaker period due to increased demand from work-from-home and home-based learning arrangements. Every telco has a buffer of at least 30 per cent of its network capacity to cope with the higher volume. Communications and Information Minister S Iswaran said this in Parliament on Tuesday (May 5), in reply to an MP’s questions. He said despite the “healthy capacity headroom” of the networks, the Government is working with telecom operators to further increase their buffers to be better prepared for a possible rise in future demand.
