Leon Perera on reviewing Singapore’s justice system(Updated: )
In Parliament on Wednesday (Nov 4), MP Leon Perera recommended creating the office of an ombudsman, in what he said would be a significant step towards making justice accessible to all. He said this would be an independent public office with the remit and resources to investigate potential wrongdoing, lapses or weaknesses in the work of public officials, or identify blind spots. This, he said, would strengthen public confidence, knowing that there was an independent avenue of redress available to ordinary people who cannot afford costly legal action against the Government.
