Pritam Singh on reviewing Singapore’s justice system(Updated: )
In Parliament on Wednesday (Nov 4), the Workers’ Party called for the office of the Attorney-General to be split into two separate roles of public prosecutor and Government legal adviser. Leader of the Opposition Pritam Singh said there was potential for the two roles to come into conflict and splitting the office would improve public trust in the independence of the justice system. Mr Singh also suggested that the prosecution’s obligations to disclose evidence favourable to the defence be codified in the Criminal Procedure Code, and explained why this should be legislated.
