Debate on strategy to emerge stronger from COVID-19: Gan Thiam Poh on maintaining balance in hiring foreign talent(Updated: )
Singapore must remain open to foreign talent, but be selective and proactive in taking action to maintain the right balance, said MP Gan Thiam Poh in Parliament on Thursday (Oct 15). He asked the Government to reconsider imposing a foreign worker levy instead of minimum qualifying salary to regulate the hiring of foreigners on Employment Passes. Mr Gan also appealed for more incentives for companies to hire Singaporeans. He asked if the Jobs Growth Incentive can be made a long-term policy, coupled with support for employers to provide permanent upskilling for local staff.
