Debate on strategy to emerge stronger from COVID-19: Koh Poh Koon on minimum wage(Updated: )
What the Workers’ Party wants to achieve from its proposed minimum wage, the Government has already achieved via the Progressive Wage Model (PWM) and other policies, NTUC Deputy Secretary-General Koh Poh Koon told Parliament on Thursday (Oct 15). He said only a small minority of workers earn less than S$1,300 and the PWM is set to be extended to more sectors. Dr Koh said it is hard to prescribe a minimum wage for all sectors, wage-setting could be politicised, plus - should it apply to migrant workers? He also responded to clarifications sought by WP’s Pritam Singh, Jamus Lim and Leon Perera.
