Debate on strategy to emerge stronger from COVID-19: Leon Perera on preparing for industry disruption(Updated: )
Industry disruption may have been delayed by COVID-19 but as the pandemic recedes, it is likely once again to pose the biggest threat to jobs in Singapore, said MP Leon Perera in Parliament on Thursday (Oct 15). He called for efforts to attract and root disruptive industries here to drive economic growth, such as by offering fixed-term work passes to bring in foreigners with future-ready skill sets while buying time for locals to be trained. He also urged the Government to work with employees in at-risk sectors to plan for the possibility of them losing their jobs.
