Ong Ye Kung on endowment funds for autonomous universities(Updated: )
The Government gives more help to newer universities by matching the donations they raise at a higher rate. For the new universities, the Government matches three-to-one, whereas for a more established university with a larger reserve, the Government will match much less. Minister for Education Ong Ye Kung gave an update on these funds and their uses in Parliament on Tuesday (Sep 3), in reply to questions from MPs. A large part of the funds goes to subsidised education. Other major uses include providing bursaries, scholarships and supplementary educational programmes.
