SINGAPORE: A total of 13 schools were oversubscribed after the first day of Primary One registration under Phase 2B on Monday (Jul 20).
Two neighbourhood schools were in demand - Rulang Primary School in Jurong and Canberra Primary School in Sembawang.
Tao Nan School in Marine Parade was the most sought after, with 43 registrations for only 28 places. Other schools that were oversubscribed included Nanyang Primary School and Methodist Girls' School in Bukit Timah.
Under Phase 2B, parents have to meet at least one of three criteria to be eligible.
These include joining the school as a parent volunteer no later than Jul 1, 2014, and having volunteered for at least 40 hours by Jun 30 this year. Another criterion is to be an endorsed member of the church or clan directly connected to the school.
The last criterion requires the parent to be endorsed as an active community leader.
Registration closes at 4.30pm on Tuesday, while the results will be out this Friday.
