Motorcyclist dead after accident involving 5 vehicles along CTE

SINGAPORE: A 31-year-old motorcyclist has died after a multi-vehicle accident along the Central Expressway (CTE) on Friday (Jul 23) night.
The man was among seven people who were taken to the hospital after the accident, but subsequently died from his injuries, the police said.
The accident involved a car, a taxi, a lorry and two motorcycles, they said.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said they were alerted to the road traffic accident along the CTE towards the Seletar Expressway (SLE) after Cavenagh Road exit at about 9.20pm.Â
Upon arrival, all lanes were heavily congested and a car was "completely engulfed in flames", said SCDF.
The lorry and two motorcycles were found turned on their sides. No one was trapped, added SCDF.Â
SCDF Emergency Medical Services personnel assessed seven people for injuries.
At the same time, SCDF paramedics administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on a person who had no pulse and was not breathing. CPR was also administered on that person while en route to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
The six other people taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital include another male motorcyclist, a female car driver and a male lorry driver and his three passengers.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze with fire extinguishers, two compressed air foam backpacks and two water jets.Â
Mr Yasuhito Chua, an eyewitness, told CNA that the incident took place near the back of The Centrepoint shopping mall and the Holiday Inn hotel.Â
The 20-year-old, who saw the accident site from his residence, said the incident caused a traffic jam. The fire was extinguished at about 10pm, he added.Â
