Celebratory parade for Rio 2016 Paralympians on Saturday

Team Singapore Paralympians will arrive at Changi Airport on Wednesday morning for a homecoming celebration with supporters.

SINGAPORE: Team Singapore Paralympians will arrive at Changi Airport on Wednesday morning (Sep 21) for a homecoming celebration with supporters, Sport Singapore said in a press release.

The Singapore contingent, which comprises 13 athletes led by medallists Yip Pin Xiu and Theresa Goh, is scheduled to arrive at 5.35am at Changi Airport Terminal 3 on Wednesday.

Yip clinched two gold medals at the Paralympics, winning both the women’s S2 50m and 100m backstroke events while Goh won bronze in the women’s SB4 100m breaststroke.

Yip Pin Xiu (left) and Theresa Goh will be returning to Singapore with two gold medals and a bronze medal respectively.

The pair will also take part in a media press conference on Wednesday afternoon at the Singapore Sports Institute.

On Saturday, the entire Team Singapore Paralympics contingent will participate in a celebratory parade.

The parade convoy will start at 9am from the ActiveSG Sengkang Sports Centre. The athletes will then make a pit stop at the National Library on Victoria Street before concluding at Vivocity.

Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Grace Fu earlier said there will be a public celebration to honour the “extraordinary achievements” of Singapore’s Paralympians when they return from Rio de Janeiro.
