Changes in Permanent Secretary appointments from May: PSD

This comes after the retirement of Permanent Secretary Benny Lim who will step down after 37 years in the Public Service.

SINGAPORE: Nine civil servants will be taking on new posts or a change in portfolio following a reshuffle that will take place on May 1, the Public Service Division (PSD) announced on Tuesday (Mar 22).

This follows the retirement of Mr Benny Lim, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of National Development, Prime Minister’s Office and National Security and Intelligence Coordination. He will step down from Apr 30, 2016 after 37 years in the Public Service, PSD said.

It lauded Mr Lim for leading MND to fulfil its mission to develop "world-class infrastructure, create a vibrant and sustainable living environment and build rooted and cohesive communities".

Among the changes is a new Permanent Secretary appointment, PSD said. Media Development Authority Chief Executive Officer Gabriel Lim will be appointed Second Permanent Secretary (Communications and Information). He will concurrently be the co-Managing Director (Designate) of the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore.

Head of Civil Service Peter Ong will be concurrently appointed as Permanent Secretary (Prime Minister's Office) (Strategy). PSD said this follows the establishment of the PMO Strategy Group in July 2015. Mr Ong will relinquish his appointments as Permanent Secretary (Prime Minister's Office) (Special Duties) and Permanent Secretary (Finance), PSD added.

Permanent Secretary (Home Affairs) Leo Yip will be concurrently appointed as Permanent Secretary (Prime Minister's Office) and Permanent Secretary (National Security and Intelligence Coordination).

Permanent Secretary (Health) Tan Ching Yee will be appointed as Permanent Secretary (Prime Minister's Office) (Special Duties) and Permanent Secretary (Finance), PSD said, while Permanent Secretary (Social and Family Development) Chan Heng Kee will be appointed as Permanent Secretary (Health).

Mr Aubeck Kam, Permanent Secretary (Communications and Information) will concurrently be appointed as Permanent Secretary (Manpower).

Mr Chew Hock Yong, who is currently Second Permanent Secretary (National Development) and Permanent Secretary in charge of the Municipal Services Office will take over Mr Chan, after his appointment as Permanent Secretary (Social and Family Development).

Mrs Ow Foong Pheng, currently Permanent Secretary (Trade and Industry), will be appointed as Permanent Secretary (National Development). She will also be the Permanent Secretary in charge of the Municipal Services Office.

Lastly, Mr Loh Khum Yean, who is at the moment Permanent Secretary (Manpower), will be appointed as Permanent Secretary (Trade and Industry), taking over Mrs Ow.
