Committee of Supply 2021 debate, Day 5: Cheryl Chan on improving flood resilience

02:16 Min
What are Singapore’s plans for inland flood management in the face of increasingly unpredictable weather, asked MP Cheryl Chan in Parliament on Thursday (Mar 4). She suggested increasing vegetation topsoil to serve as an absorbent layer for water drainage, especially at park connectors, along river banks, or where planting has been done next to roads. She also said many flash floods happen in low-lying areas, including some private estates, and asked if infrastructure or drainage systems will be improved in those places.
