Committee of Supply 2021 debate, Day 5: Lim Wee Kiak on 'exciting' spin-offs from efforts to shore up defences against rising sea levels

04:00 Min
As Singapore shores up its defences against the threat of rising sea levels, it should look at the "exciting" spin-offs that the projects will bring. Building polders and reclaiming land will mean more areas for housing and other purposes. MP Lim Wee Kiak, who said this in Parliament on Thursday (Mar 4), asked if the Government could bring forward its infrastructure projects so that Singapore can enjoy the benefits earlier and help small and medium-sized enterprises grow. He also wanted to know how these projects will affect the shipping lanes, as well as the waters for the Navy to train.
