SINGAPORE: Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat said on Tuesday (Aug 9) he will not attend the National Day Parade on doctors' advice that he "avoid crowded places". In a Facebook post, he said he feels “great" and thanked everyone for their words of encouragement as he wished all Singaporeans a happy National Day.
"I feel great now, been keeping up the rehab in between reading papers from MOF and the CFE (Committee on the Future Economy), but the doctors say the lungs take time to recover fully and a new infection could set back that process. Because of that, I also cannot attend the parade today," said Mr Heng in his post. He added that he will join those who are catching the parade on TV at home.
Mr Heng was hospitalised for a month and a half following surgery after he collapsed from a stroke. He was discharged on Jun 25 and has been on medical leave as he continues his rehabilitation process.
