SINGAPORE: The topic of the Hougang by-election will be raised in Parliament when the House resumes at 11.00 am on Friday.

MP for Holland Bukit Timah GRC, Christopher De Souza has asked the Prime Minister if he is considering calling a by-election in the Hougang Single Member Constituency and if so, when.

The Hougang seat was left vacant after the Workers' Party sacked the former MP for the area Yaw Shin Leong.

When Parliament resumed on February 28, the Speaker declared the seat vacant when Mr Yaw replied that he would not be challenging or appealing against his expulsion from the Party.

Two bills will come up for a second reading.

These are the Consumer Protection (fair trading) amendment Bill and the Moneylenders (amendment) Bill.

The House will continue the debate on the estimates for the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports on Friday.
