SINGAPORE: A 30-year-old male suspect was arrested on Sep 21 for being involved in cheating at least 12 victims, the police said on Friday (Sep 23).
In a Facebook post, the police said it received several reports from victims since Sep 16 regarding the scam. They were purportedly cheated by a seller who sold them iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus devices, but who could not be contacted after deposits were made by the victims, they added.
Channel NewsAsia understands the online platform to be Carousell, and that victims lost between hundreds and thousands of dollars to the scammer.
The man was subsequently arrested at Toa Payoh Lorong 1 on Sep 21, and he will be charged in court on Friday, police said.
If convicted, the suspect may face up to 10 years' jail and also be liable to a fine.
