SINGAPORE: A 34-year-old suspect has been arrested for allegedly attempting to extort S$500 from another man. The suspect also allegedly threatened to disseminate compromising photographs of the the victim's wife on the Internet if the victim did not comply.
The Singapore Police Force (SPF) said in a news release on Thursday (Aug 11) that the 32-year-old victim reported on Monday that he had received a call from an unknown person demanding the sum of money.
After receiving the report of the attempted extortion at Tech Park Crescent, police officers from Jurong Division investigated and arrested the suspect at Jurong West Avenue 5 on Wednesday. The suspect's mobile phone was also seized as a case exhibit, SPF said in the release.
The suspect will be charged in court for attempted extortion on Friday. If convicted, he faces up to five years' imprisonment and caning.
