SINGAPORE: Mediacorp on Thursday (Dec 1) clinched three awards on the first night of the Asian Television Awards at Suntec City, taking home wins in the Best Documentary Programme, Best Current Affairs Programme and Best Preschool Programme segments.
The broadcaster received a total of 62 nominations across 27 categories this year, including 21 nominations from Channel NewsAsia.
Channel NewsAsia's wildlife documentary "Wild City" won the Best Documentary Programme segment and its "Undercover Asia - North Korean Slaves" clinched the Best Current Affairs award.
Okto's "Leo the Wildlife Ranger" was named the Best Preschool Programme.
A total of 28 awards were presented on the first night of the two-part award show.
Another 18 awards will be given out on Friday in a televised show that will be broadcast "live" in 15 countries.
Hosted by Adrian Pang, Stephanie Carrington, Alden Richards and Baki Zainal, the show will feature performances by international and local artistes like Charli XCX and JJ Lin.
The Terrestrial Broadcaster of the Year honour will also be awarded on Friday, a highly coveted honour that Mediacorp won last year for the 12th time.
