SINGAPORE: Additional flood protection measures like floodgates and flood barrier walls will be implemented at 11 MRT stations by the end of the year.
This follows a joint review with Singapore's national water agency, PUB, and the Land Transport Authority in 2011.
The first phase of protection measures is currently being implemented in low lying downtown areas and includes six MRT stations.
They are City Hall, Little India, Novena, Orchard, Raffles Place and Tanjong Pagar.
Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew gave the update in a written reply to a Parliamentary question by MP for Pasir-Ris Punggol GRC who had asked if there are contingency plans in place, should unforeseen flooding occur.
