SINGAPORE: Starting Tuesday (Dec 1), the monthly National Service (NS) rank allowance for full-time National Servicemen (NSFs) and Operationally Ready National Servicemen (NSmen) will be increased by S$80 across all ranks.
The increase applies to all NSFs and NSmen in the Singapore Armed Forces, Singapore Police Force, and Singapore Civil Defence Force, the Ministry of Defence said in a news release on Monday.
“The NS rank allowance, which supports our national servicemen in their basic personal upkeep, is reviewed periodically,” MINDEF said, adding that the allowance was last increased by S$60 in 2012.
With the latest revision, a recruit or trainee will receive a monthly NS rank allowance of S$560, up from the S$480 he currently receives.
After factoring in combat or operational allowances, a typical SAF NSF enlistee who is an Infantry Trooper holding the rank of Lance-Corporal in an Infantry Battalion, an NSF TransCom Officer holding the rank of Special Constable 2 in the SPF, or an NSF Paramedic holding the rank of Lance-Corporal in the SCDF will receive S$730 per month in allowance.
A typical NSF officer holding the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in SAF or Probationary Inspector in SPF will receive a gross allowance of S$1,230 per month.
