SINGAPORE: Members of the public have been receiving missed calls from unknown numbers starting with "999" on their mobile phones, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said in an advisory on Facebook on Wednesday (Jul 6).
When return calls are made, these members of the public would be connected to the police emergency hotline, which has the number "999", instead.
"Members of the public are advised to ignore such calls from unknown origins, where Caller ID spoofing technology may be used to mask the actual phone and display a different number," SPF said in the advisory.
Those with related information may call the police hotline at 1800-255 0000 or submit the information online.
"Dial ‘999’ only if urgent Police assistance is required," the authority added.
