Singapore, Brunei reaffirm 'special relationship'

Meeting Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah expresses hope that both countries will continue to work together to address regional and global challenges, given their commonalities.

SINGAPORE: Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah has reaffirmed the "special relationship" between Singapore and Brunei and welcomed close cooperation between both countries as Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan visits the kingdom.

The Sultan also expressed hope that both countries will continue to work together to address regional and global challenges, given their commonalities.

Dr Balakrishnan met him on Monday (Oct 26), the second day of his two-day trip to Brunei. The trip is part of his introductory visits to the region.

He also had meetings with Crown Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah, Ambassador-at-Large Princess Hajah Masna, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Pehin Lim Jock Seng and Minister of Education Pehin Suyoi Osman. Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Dr Balakrishnan had good discussions on bilateral cooperation and regional developments with all of them.
