Singapore Embassy seeking legal advice for 'misleading' Duterte post

"We also request the immediate removal of the post, which is a clear misrepresentation," wrote the Singapore embassy in Manila, referring to an "untrue" post that claimed PM Lee Hsien Loong endorsed Philippine presidential candidate Rodrigo Duterte.

SINGAPORE: The Singapore embassy in the Philippine capital of Manila is seeking legal advice after "misleading" posts about Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong endorsing Philippine presidential candidate Rodrigo Duterte surfaced online.

"The Embassy takes a serious view of the misleading FB post. We are seeking legal advice. We also request the immediate removal of the post, which is a clear misrepresentation," the Embassy wrote in a Facebook post on Monday (Apr 25).

The Embassy had earlier posted on Facebook last week that it was "untrue" that Mr Lee supported Mr Duterte for the upcoming election on May 9.

The embassy said it has been alerted to a Facebook post "mischievously" alleging this. A photo shared on social media in recent days showed Mr Lee with the caption: "Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is the only presidential candidate that could make Philippines like Singapore".

"This is untrue. Singapore does not endorse any candidate. The choice is for Filipinos alone to make. We wish the Philippines well in the conduct of its elections," the embassy said in a statement on its website.
