SINGAPORE: The Republic’s Foreign Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan will speak at the upcoming United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, announced the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) on Sunday (Sep 18).
Dr Balakrishnan is due to deliver Singapore’s statement at the General Debate of the 71st UNGA session, held from Sep 18 - 26. The General Assembly is the only principal organ of the UN in which all member states have equal representation, and its powers include adopting the UN budget among others.
In New York, Dr Balakrishnan will also attend meetings such as the 9th Ministerial Meeting of the Global Governance Group (3G), the Informal Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and the Foreign Ministers segment of the Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate Change.
Dr Balakrishnan will be accompanied on his trip by senior officials from MFA.
