SINGAPORE: Albirex Niigata on Friday (Nov 27) won the RHB Singapore Cup after coming from behind to beat Home United 2-1 at Jalan Besar Stadium.
It was the Japanese side's second trophy this season, after winning the League Cup in June.
With Brunei DPMM winning the S-League title last Saturday, it means local clubs finished the season empty-handed. Home United have won the Singapore Cup a record six times, but Japanese club Albirex are no slouches having won the League Cup in June.
Home United played much of the game with a man down after Fazli Ayob was shown a straight red for this incident in the 25th minute, but Albirex couldn't make their superiority count and the score was goal-less at half-time.
Instead it was the Protectors who took the lead after centre-back Abdil Qaiyyim converted this cross from Yasir Hanap. Albirex eventually made their extra man count. Rion Taki's header in the 78th minute pulled the Japanese team level.
Kento Nagasaki's goal in the 87th minute gave his team the Singapore Cup.
