Adjournment motion on training safety in National Service(Updated: )
The SAF's goal of zero training fatalities is "unrealistic", said Workers' Party chief Pritam Singh in Parliament on Monday (Feb 11), where he had filed an adjournment motion. In response, Minister for Defence Ng Eng Hen said while achieving that goal was difficult, maybe even "impossible", it must be aimed for, to "sear (the message of safety) into the consciousness of every commander and soldier". Mr Singh also suggested that civil suits be allowed in cases of egregious safety breaches, to which Dr Ng replied that MINDEF already holds commanders accountable through criminal prosecution.
