Alvin Tan on Singapore's firm stand against hate speech and crimes

(Updated: )

Singaporeans must guard against the virality of xenophobia, and take a firm stand against hate speech and crimes as one united people, said Minister of State for Culture, Community and Youth Alvin Tan. Speaking in reply to an MP's question in Parliament on Tuesday (May 11), he outlined Singapore's multi-pronged approach to deter hate crimes and speech while strengthening cohesion and enlarging the common space. He said despite Singapore's best efforts, it is not immune to hate crimes and xenophobia, especially under the stresses from the COVID-19 pandemic.
