Amy Khor on operating costs for hawkers managed by social enterprises vs NEA(Updated: )
It costs S$750 to S$3,000 a month to rent a stall at hawker centres run by social enterprises, which works out to a median cost of S$2,000. That is comparable to the S$1,700 a month at NEA-run hawker centres, after taking into account the bigger, better-designed stalls and amenities at new hawker centres. Additional costs like service and conservancy charges and table-cleaning fees are similar across all hawker centres. Senior Minister of State for the Environment and Water Resources Amy Khor said this in Parliament on Monday (Feb 11) in response to a question by MP Muhamad Faisal Abdul Manap.
