Committee of Supply 2021 debate, Day 5: Gan Thiam Poh on hawker succession, COVID-19's impact on hawker centre construction

The Government is matching retiring hawkers without successors with aspiring hawkers so that they can pass on their craft or stalls. MP Gan Thiam Poh asked in Parliament on Thursday (Mar 4) how the hawkers are identified and what support the hawkers are given during the transition. He also asked how COVID-19 had affected the construction of new hawker centres and whether the new centres would continue to come under the socially conscious enterprise model.
