Committee of Supply 2021 debate, Day 5: Saktiandi Supaat on help for HDB flat sellers affected by Ethnic Integration Policy

Amid financial difficulties due to the COVID-19 crisis, some Singaporeans are trying to sell their HDB flats to monetise them or downgrade to a smaller unit. However, some minority sellers are affected by the Ethnic Integration Policy (EIP), which has limited the pool of prospective buyers and forced them to sell way below market rate, said MP Saktiandi Supaat. He suggested giving such sellers a discount when they buy their next HDB flat, through an “EIP price harmonisation grant”. Mr Saktiandi spoke in Parliament on Thursday (Mar 4).
