Debate on strategy to emerge stronger from COVID-19: He Ting Ru on boosting Singapore's birth rate(Updated: )
Efforts to boost Singapore's birth rate have not yielded lasting results over many years, said MP He Ting Ru, asking if too much focus has been placed on financial aspects. Pointing to a link between greater gender equity and higher birth rates, she called for couples to be allowed to decide how to split their children's care, such as with shared parental leave after a baby is born and getting employers to support more flexibility and career options for both mums and dads. In Parliament on Thursday (Oct 15), Ms He also suggested studies on parenting and parental burnout.
