Doctors don't have to list all side effects, complications: Lam Pin Min(Updated: )
Doctors are not required to inform patients about every potential side effect and complication of treatment. Senior Minister of State for Health Lam Pin Min made this clarification in Parliament on Monday (Feb 11), after the recent case of an orthopaedic surgeon being fined S$100,000 for failing to disclose the side effects of a common injection. Dr Lam said the Health Ministry does not want doctors to practise "defensive medicine", and will discuss the issues with the profession as part of a broader review.
