Gerald Giam and Koh Poh Koon on ensuring patients’ interest in healthcare(Updated: )
There are often competing interests between doctors and insurers but more can be done to help bridge the gap to ensure that patients' interests are protected within Singapore's healthcare system, said MP Gerald Giam. In an adjournment motion in Parliament on Monday (May 10), he urged the Government to consider his proposals in three key areas - medical fee benchmarks, health insurance coverage and over-servicing of healthcare. In response, Senior Minister of State for Health Koh Poh Koon said ensuring patients' interests has been and will always be a priority of the Ministry of Health.
