He Ting Ru on Road Traffic (Amendment) Bill(Updated: )
Road safety for migrant workers is not addressed in the Road Traffic (Amendment) Bill, said MP He Ting Ru in Parliament on Tuesday (May 11). She asked the authorities to seriously consider mandating that all migrant workers be ferried in buses or mini-buses. With many such vehicles left idle due to COVID-19 hitting tourism, she said this could be a good time to start the transition, perhaps with Government support. On allowing frisk searches as part of enhanced security on public transport, Ms He urged safeguards to prevent the risk of abuse, such as only letting female officers frisk women.
