Lam Pin Min on Land Transport (Enforcement Measures) Bill(Updated: )
All motorised personal mobility devices will have to meet fire safety standards - that is, be UL2272-compliant - by 2021. This was revealed on Monday (Sep 10) during the second reading of the Land Transport (Enforcement Measures) Bill in Parliament. Senior Minister of State for Transport Lam Pin Min said that since 2016, there have been more than 80 fires involving motorised PMDs, posing a serious public safety concern. The new laws under the Bill also pave the way for e-scooter registration and tougher penalties for motorists who damage public streets and infrastructure.
