Low Yen Ling on protecting maids' employers who make advance wage payments(Updated: )
Employment agencies are required by law to disclose their refund policies on advance salary payments, to protect both employers and maids. Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Manpower Low Yen Ling said this in Parliament on Monday (Feb 11) in answer to a question from MP Murali Pillai. Advance salary payments are made to settle expenses incurred by maids in their home countries when seeking employment abroad. Ms Low said agencies usually refund any outstanding payment if the maid commits an offence and faces repatriation, or if the employment contract is terminated early.
