Melvin Yong on Road Traffic (Amendment) Bill(Updated: )
In Parliament on Monday (Jul 8), MP Melvin Yong called for more measures to deter people from driving under the influence of alcohol. He pointed out that the proposed measures under the Road Traffic (Amendment) Bill target the driver. He said those who knowingly assist the driver, such as handing a drunk person the keys to the car, should also be made culpable. He said the Government needs to go beyond the “business-as-usual” practice of increasing fines and conducting enforcement operations.
