Grace Fu on improving employability of women

SINGAPORE: Member of Parliament for Yuhua SMC Ms Grace Fu said this year's budget will help improve employability of women.
This is especially so for single mothers and those who are caregivers for the elderly.
For example, she said schemes to help companies restructure will benefit single mothers who need a workplace that provides flexible work arrangements.
She added that more subsidies for home-based care will provide emotional and physical support to caregivers, many who are women.
She said the budget put in place a more robust framework to redistribute income so that the lower income segments of the society benefit more.
"It is about helping people to help themselves, achieving self-reliance in the long run. Childcare for the single mum so that she can work and training opportunities for better paid jobs over time; improved employability and more flexi-work arrangements for the middle-aged mother and opportunities for her teenage children to better their lives through education; support to care for her elderly mother so that the older single woman can remain gainfully employed with peace of mind," said Ms Fu.
