Traffic-easing plans in north under way

Minister for Transport Lui Tuck Yew said the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will be upgrading the interchange connecting the Central Expressway, the Tampines Expressway and the Seletar Expressway.

SINGAPORE: Minister for Transport Lui Tuck Yew said the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will be upgrading the interchange connecting the Central Expressway, the Tampines Expressway and the Seletar Expressway.

This will cater to traffic in the north and allow residents in Yishun Town to access the CTE directly via the Seletar West Link.

These projects will be progressively completed within a decade.

Mr Lui was responding to a question in Parliament on how the government is ensuring smooth traffic flow for residents in the north with the projected increase in population there.

Mr Lui also responded to queries on improving bus services.

"We are working with the operators with some intention to provide a certain degree of government support for a significant increase in the capacity of the bus fleet," Mr Lui said.

"And we will do so over the course of the next five years. When that capacity increase materialises, we will expect to see improvements not only to existing services, existing routes, but also the possibility of the introduction of new routes, new services with this increase in capacity."
