176 people caught at ZoukOut in crackdown on vapes
Health Sciences Authority (HSA) officers conducted an operation at ZoukOut, with all e-vaporisers seized and confiscated.
SINGAPORE: A total of 176 people were caught at the ZoukOut dance music festival for possessing e-vaporisers, the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) said in a press release on Friday (Dec 8).
In response to CNA queries, HSA confirmed that this was the largest number of offenders caught so far in a single operation against e-vaporisers.
This was also not the first time HSA has carried out an e-vaporiser crackdown at a single entertainment event.
The operation - carried out on Dec 2 and Dec 3 at the event held at Siloso Beach, Sentosa - was part of HSA’s efforts to enforce the prohibition against e-vaporisers in Singapore.
HSA said the offenders ranged from 18 to 51 years old. It added that they will be fined for their offences, with all e-vaporisers seized and confiscated.
"Members of the public are reminded that the possession, use or purchase of e-vaporisers is illegal and carries a maximum fine of S$2,000", the authority said.
HSA added that it will not hesitate to take stern enforcement actions on those who conduct illegal activities such as the peddling of prohibited e-vaporisers to members of the public.
Members of the public who have information on the illegal import, distribution, sale or offer for sale of e-vaporisers can contact HSA’s Tobacco Regulation Branch at 6684 2036 or 6684 2037 during office hours.
