RIO DE JANEIRO: Fluminense ended Vasco da Gama's unbeaten start to Brazil's Serie A on Saturday when they beat their city rivals 2-1 in a tense game in Rio de Janeiro.
Dodi got Fluminense off to the best possible start when his 25-meter strike went in off the post after just three minutes and then substitute Fred doubled the lead eight minutes from time.
Talles Magno pulled one back for the away side in the 86th minute before being sent off four minutes later but Vasco could not find an equaliser.
In spite of the defeat Vasco, who started the day as one of only three unbeaten teams in Brazil's top tier, remain in second place with 10 points from five games, while Fluminense move into fourth, with the same number of points but having played one game more.
