Abdul Muhaimin Abdul Malik on Civil Defence Shelter and Fire Safety (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill
Both sets of amendments further empower government officials to regulate and prosecute offences relating to the provision and installation of fire safety products used in shelters, and to sanction those who obstruct or neglect firefighting infrastructure. MP Abdul Muhaimin Abdul Malik, who said this in parliament on Tuesday (Sep 8), stressed the need for the authorities to act swiftly and effectively. He also sought clarification on the safeguards to ensure that the powers granted to officers to enter a person’s property are necessary and proportionate. He wanted to know if there are operational gaps which directly relate to the need for a warrant by inspection officers.
