Adjournment motion on building racial harmony in Singapore

Building racial harmony in Singapore is “an unending project”, said NMP Raj Joshua Thomas in Parliament on Monday (Jul 5). He laid out three key elements - engagement, communication and calibration of policies and the law. On the last point, Mr Thomas called for SAP school students to be exposed to all minority groups so they can build meaningful relationships beyond the Chinese community. He also suggested introducing a rehabilitative regime to deal with race-based crimes. Culture, Community and Youth Minister Edwin Tong said the Government will study Mr Thomas’ suggestions carefully.
