Chan Chun Sing on keeping groceries affordable amid volatile commodities markets

Singapore has been affected by the movements in food commodity prices stemming from strong global demand and tight supply, said Trade and Industry Minister Chan Chun Sing. To reduce the impact of rising commodity prices on groceries, it has diversified its food import sources and provided targeted assistance to lower-income households to help Singaporeans cope with the increase in the prices of daily necessities. Speaking in reply to an MP's question in Parliament on Tuesday (May 11), Mr Chan said the Government has been working with cooperatives to ensure that food items remain affordable.
