In 2015, Yogyakarta's Sultan Hamengku Buwono X decreed that his own royal title be tweaked to make it gender-neutral. The sultan - who has five daughters and no sons - then bestowed on his eldest daughter a new title: "Mangkabum". The title had traditionally been reserved for male princes groomed for the throne.
