Debate on President's Address: Liang Eng Hwa on incentives to hire Singaporeans

MP Liang Eng Hwa has called for measures such as hiring incentives, training allowances and subsidised traineeships to nudge companies to hire more locals. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday (Sep 1), he said Singaporeans, whether they are young graduates or mid-career PMETs, can be up to the task. "Let’s not waste this crisis. Let’s use the slack in the labour market today as an impetus to help Singaporeans adapt and take on these jobs," he said. At the same time, he said the Government should do more to reduce the overall demand for migrant labour.
