Desmond Lee on HDB resale prices and help for buyers affected by BTO delays

HDB resale flat prices rose 5 per cent in 2020 and 6 per cent in the first half of this year. The proportion of buyers who paid cash over valuation rose from one in five in 2020 to slightly above one in three in the first half of this year. These figures were given by National Development Minister Desmond Lee in Parliament on Monday (Jul 26) in response to an MP’s questions. He also spoke of support measures for buyers hit by BTO delays due to COVID-19 and who cancel to buy resale instead. These include possibly waiving the forfeiture of option fee, or 5 per cent of the flat purchase price.
